Tools, solutions for managing UPC codes

How are others managing UPC codes?  Such as our firm has historically only have a company identifier (eight digit) and then 000 to 999 and product item identifiers.  If one of these items has not had sales in four years we can re-assign the code to another or new item.

I suspect that no core feature, add-in or custom code for this in NAV, right?

What exactly do you mean by "managing" UPC codes? If you would like to assign new official UPS code to your product, you need to go to e.g. www.gs1us.org and register one officially, at some certain cost. Then you will obtain a certain code that you will be able to use in NAV system as well by putting it e.g. as the Barcode (e.g., here: msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh898906(v=nav.90).aspx)

    hi ronald,

according to your description it seems that you use the UPCs internal and for your items you sell to your customers (in your region, not outside the US). it depends on national and state laws, if you need "offical"/international barcodes.

but i think, the point is: is the usage of barcodes part of nav standard ? yes it is. for each item you can set a list of item references (tab navigate, button references). here you can set barcodes/upcs (the barcode number, e.g. 12345678001) for each item. to get the print version of the barcode (the lines) in reports/labels, you could use barcode fonts. for scanning barcodes you'll need a scanner, which provides the scanned barcode as text. anyway, ask your nav partner for further assistance.

    regards
