The use of product type Services and Item

Hi all,

Is there any impact if my product is set as item instead of services?

Since we have no inventory, thus currently my set up for item model group is EXP.

However we have already upload the item master data all as item while some of them are should be services.

I am wondering if there will be impact in the future.

Thanks in advance,

M.H.

    Hi,

Product type = Service means 'do not maintain On-hand for this item' (i.e. do not track how much of this item is in inventory).

If you set the item up as an 'Item', AX will record this item in On-hand. If these are items that you buy, you will accumulate inventory of these items (and they might sit as an asset in your general ledger). If they are items that you sell, you will need to have them in inventory before you can sell them (unless you run negative inventory).

Also, is your EXP Item Model Group a non-stocked model group? An 'Item' with a non-stocked Item model group is a bit mad; there is no scenario in AX where you would do this. Can you create new items (to replace those that were imported wrong)? Maybe if the items have no transactions anywhere, it would be possible to ask a developer to change the Product type & Item type via a job.

    Hi Guy,

Category of product in my company are as below:

    Item

    - Stock (inventory)

    - Non-Stock (expense)

    Services

    - Expense

Currently the case are for services product which I incorrectly uploaded data as Item instead of services product type. Although from the journal perspective the result are the same between services and item product type because its now set as non-stock item.

My question is there any impact if service product set as item product type? Or should I change the product type into the service product type?

    Thanks,

    M.H.

    Hi,

    I too have same question.

Also, can we use Service item as stock item (Item model group). Please respond with some details and example if possible.
