Great Plains Journal Entry only takes up half the screen for me user. Other users have it working as it should

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello everyone, I am a System admin trying to assist a colleague with a MS Dynamics Great Plains issue. When she opens a journal entry, the rows and cells have numbers that are not entirely listed in the cell(s) for example, you can see part of the number 8, but the top of it is cut off. I have taken a look at other users who do not have this problem at all. I was not able to adjust the size of the journal entry. I have adjusted the screen resolution and I have even updated the display adapters drivers to no avail. JE1.png

Please take a look at the screen shot and let me know what you think. It only takes up about 1/3 of the main screen whereas other users are able to open the journal reports and it takes up practically the entire screen. This is specific to journal entries in Great Plains. It does not occur in any other Windows programs.

We are using Windows 7 64 Bit O/S/

Thank you

I have tried with two different monitors and it looks exactly the same. We just want it to be able to facilitate the end users preference. I would not want to work in that small of a window because it is difficult to see.

The lower window is an inquiry window whereas the top window is a trx entry window. The horizontal arrows are turned on in the user preferences window. Folks use these to be able to scroll left and right. For instance, if your account number doesn't fit because it is too long. You can turn the arrows off and use Modifier to make the account number display wider. There is not a setting that will change the behavior of the account number field.

Some of what you are seeing on the screen is due to different monitors. Different sizes and shapes. See how wide my screenshot is.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

After taking a look at the screen shots, these do not even look like the same version. I will have to see what version each user is using.

In the second screen, there are no arrow for the numbers. That is what my end user wants.

The first screen has the arrows and the numbers are then hidden inside of those arrows to the left or right. The cells are also longer and much more accommodating for data.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,

A modified window is one that has been changed using the Modifier tool. My General Entry window looks like this:

What do you mean by a "modified window"?

I will take screen shots of what looks more normal tomorrow.

When my end user went to another PC the JE looked the same for her on a different PC.

When I saw what it looked like on another PC display it took up almost the entire screen.

The cell where the . . . . is is where the numbers look compressed and cut off. I will be taking some more screen shots tomorrow.

    Thank you!

The image you have presented is exactly what the general entry window looks like if it is opened and then you maximize it. The right hand side will be grey like your image. Your screen shot doesn't have any numbers in it so I cannot see what you mean when you say it gets cut off. Reports are different from windows as to how they appear. You can full screen a report, but not necessarily a window.

If one of the other users has the General Entry screen that you think should be displayed on the workstation from which you took this screenshot, please include it. Right now, I do not see any problem with how the window is appearing on screen. Are the others using a modified window?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

You can try re-installing GP too if the issue persists
