Hi All,

Can you please suggest a good book on MS Dynamics CRM?

I have more than 5 years of .Net development experience and want to learn Dynamics CRM from developer's perspective but I guess I need to know exactly what dynamics is and do.I have a general idea about dynamics CRM.

I tried looking for good reading material but cannot find it, secondly with Dynamics CRM 2015 being released, is it ok to go through 2013 resources? Because of the changes?

Please suggest.

Thanks

Look for CRM 2013 books on Amazon. Also, your best best would be the implementation guide and SDK. There are also a ton of videos on YouTube on various topics to check as you progress with your learning

CRM 2015 is fairly new and isn't very different from CRM 2013 for a developer.

Recently, I read "Microsoft Dynamics CRM Customization Essentials" by Nicolae Tarla and found it a good resource for users getting started into Dynamics CRM. This book was released only recently and covered CRM2015. If you would like to purchase this head to www.packtpub.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-crm-customization-essentials

If you are looking for a free resource, have a look at crmbook.powerobjects.com.  This is an online only book and covers all the fundamental concepts of the Dynamics CRM.

Customer centre is also a good place to start, if you are a beginner and would like to read bite sized posts or watch short videos -> www.microsoft.com/.../crm-customer-center

I believe it is import to understand the platform and the product first, before diving into code and these resources will give you a good overview of the capabilities. After that, you can just download the SDK and have a look at the sample code.

    Hi,

Is "Microsoft Dynamics CRM Customization Essentials" developer-centric?

I don't want to dive too much into customization and administrative part of dynamics crm, rather just learn enough to get me started on development and learn CRM along the way.

    Thanks

If you want to learn CRM as developer the best place to start is the CRM SDK.

This has all the different types of customizations (plugins, javascript, etc) and samples.

If you want to learn CRM I would suggest taking the two certifications

CRM 2015 or CRM 2013 Custtomization and configuration

This goes through all the customization and config you can do without any code

    CRM 2013 - extending CRM

This goes through all the code customizations

The best way to is to get writing CRM customizations

here is my youtube videos on creating plugins

    https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsOVDEkdRUuwyd2E2Xs7xmFxnEQq2Marn

    Write Javascript

    Create busines rules and workflows

Also work through the new functionality added in CRM 2015

Because CRM changes so quickly there are not many books written to help you

    Follow blogs

    and try reading this

    Thanks Ben, this makes sense.

I have already begun working on customization.

Thank you all for the help.

you might find these resources useful for passing the MB2-703 - CRM 2013 Customization and config certification
