Create a Custom Operating Unit Type

Hello Experts,
 
I have a client who would like to set up Locations as a fin dim.  I wanted to create this as an operating unit and then pull in as a financial dimension.  In operating units, there is no "Location" type.  Is there a way to create a custom operating unit?

    There is a document for this topic based on AX2012 called Implementing and Extending
    the Organization Model in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012. You can download it here: Download Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 White Papers: Code Upgrade from Official Microsoft Download Center
     
    The difference is that you need to implement this now via extension-based development. E.g. adding the enum value or the operating unit will be an enumeration extension.
     
    Let us know if this document is guiding you to your solution. I haven't seen similar documentation for Dynamics 365 myself.
