Selective use of Status Reason options

Hello,

I'm wondering if there is a way to control the use of some of the options in the status reason.

So basically there are 12 options to select when closing an opportunity as lost. I want anyone to be able to close an opportunity against the first ten lost codes, but I only want certain people to be able to choose the last 2 codes.

Does anyone know a way of doing this without code. Maybe using business rules or a workflow.

Many thanks,

Mike.

Need to use code to remove and add the values from an optionset such as status reason.

Unfortunately - out of the box business rules or workflow does not have this option.

Hi Frank, I've managed to create a workflow that stops the user from being able to close the opportunity down under the two codes. It then displays a message informing the user to get the CRM administrator to close the opportunities for them. How ever to actually close the opportunities down, I have to temporarily disable the the workflow, close them, then re-enable the workflow.

If anyone else has any suggestions about how to make the workflow applicable to certain users only, or can perhaps suggest an alternative solution, i'd be happy to hear them.

    Regards,

    Mike.

    Hi Michael

If you already have a workflow going, you can just add a field to the user entity (a two-option for instance) that you check against in the workflow. If that field is unchecked for a user, you disallow the last two statuses. If it's checked, you allow then as well.

With that, you obviously also need to make sure that the users can't set this checkbox themselves :)

Hi Daniel, thanks for your suggestion. If i understand correctly, you're suggesting adding a check condition into the workflow that spots whether or not a user has been given a tick to allow them to close the opportunities as lost using the two lost codes. However when I look to add in the check condition, there is no option to select the user entity.

So I managed to find a solution to this, by adding 'modified by' does not equal 'myself' (or anyone i want to be able to close using the two codes). This means anyone who wants to close lost using the codes must ask me to validate those opps first, i can then close them as lost without having to disable and re-enable the workflow each time.
