We are proposing to have a segment in our CoA which will define location. The segment will have five digits - first two digits represent business type, last three represent actual site location (i.e.) 10100 = Asphalt Business (10) in Dallas (100).

Is there a way to report the results of a region without putting the region in the CoA? i.e. if we want to see all sales from Texas where Dallas is location 100; Chicago is 105; Austin is 110. Can you somehow tie 100 and 110 together in the "background" and be able to run Management Reporter / SSRS / Other Reports for Texas?

With Management Reporter you could use the logic of the accounts to consolidate via region. i.e. for Texas you would have a tree like:

Summary

- Texas

-- Austin [Location] = ??110

-- Dalas [Location] = ??100

- Illinois

-- Chicago [Location] = ??210

Depending on the needs of various types of reports you may want to consider a separate dimension for region, or splitting business and site into two different dimensions. There will be a lot of reports you need so just be sure to verify that the tools you will be using all can use the coa you select.
