"Splitting" a Fixed asset into components with different service life

Hello,

Due to regulatory changes we have a situation in which we need to change the way we define and depreciate certain fixed assets. The fixed assets that we have at the moment need to be split it's different components and these should be kept as separate Fixed assets. For example we need to break down a property in to component such as facade, plumbing, roof, etc. and these can all have different service lifetimes and different depreciation periods remaining.

How could we go about such a transition? Can we use the split fixed asset functionality for this or are there other methods? Do we need to create new fixed assets, credit the original/main fixed asset and debit the new components with their respective remaining balance?

Any input is appreciated.
Kind regards,
O

    Hi,

In this case, I think the split function will lead to some more work. I don't know all the details, but probable creating new assets and making some adjustment posting and transfer amounts might be the best way to do it.

    Hi,
You can refer to this official document: Create a fixed asset - Finance | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft LearnThis article explains how to create a new fixed asset record from the Fixed asset list page. Or you can refer to this official document: Split a fixed asset - Finance | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn. This article explains how to split a percentage of one asset book to a new asset book.
    Best regards,
    Kevin

    Hi,

For the above scenario, you can split asset functionality.

Refer the link below for the complete step.
