Extender field does not allow saving '00' values

I have a Window created using Extender in Dynamics GP 10. The window has three fields in it, which work fine, except... one field is set up as a short string with a two digit mask constraining it to numeric values (i.e. 'XX'). When the Window is opened and the field is null, entering '00' appears to be okay, but after saving it and re-opening the Window, it is null again. However, setting it to something else (e.g. '01') works fine, after which changing the value to '00' is just fine and gets saved correctly. Is this a bug in Extender that '0' values cannot be saved when the field has never been saved?

I thought of setting this field to a mandatory field hoping it would help, but that is not what I want. Also note, when the field is tabbed to, the initial value displayed is '00' since it mimics the defined mask.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
