Change default lookup from Customer/Vendor ID to Customer/Vendor Name

Hi,

I searched the forum and came up empty, so I apologize if this has been asked and answered before. I would like to change the default lookup option from Customer/Vendor ID to Customer/Vendor Name. It would be much more functional for me to enter the first few letters of a name-entering the first few numbers is not helpful as we have far too many customers and vendors to remember which number belongs to which entity.

Thank you!!

Jill

You mean you want to type customer name or Vendor name first few characters on their respective ID fields like on Sales Transaction Entry window or Purchase Order Entry window, so when open Customer/Vendor lookup it will open , sorted with name and not ID? This could only be done by customization.

Yes, I want to be able to enter the first few letters and have the appropriate options appear in the drop down. The same as what happens with the numeric ID, but with the Customer/Vendor name entered instead. I know this is a customization, I don't know how or where to enter the customization.

This seems to apply to smart list/smart lookup only. I am wanting to be able to enter the first few letters of a customer/vendor name in the transaction screen and have the appropriate options appear in the drop down.

    Hi JPepper,

I think the free product named SmartSort may be able to provide you the solution. SmartSort is written by EthoTech and allows you to change the default sort order for many of the lookup lists. I have used this product for years and it has never been a problem for me. Go to www.ethotech.com;pid=150&ct=Products&pt=SmartSort

    and take a look.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Did SmartSort provide the needed functionality?

    Kind regards,
