365 on premise and Exchange on premise

Hi all,

I've setup my CRM dev environment on Azure VMs. I have it IFD configured and I can't remember the specific reason I did this.

So I have a hopefully very simple questions - is making CRM IFD a requirement for setting up server side synchronization with an on premise Exchange server?

I am confused as to why would I have setup IFD if it's not really required by any of my components.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt622062.aspx doesn't mention IFD as a requirement either.

Thanks David. Just as I thought, but I still have that lurking feeling in the back of my head - why on earth would I have done it :)

IFD is not required for server side synchronization when CRM and Exchange are both OnPremise.

Some other reasons why you may need IFD:

To use the mobile client

Some 3rd party add-ins require IFD
