Convert/Upgrade NAV 2018 to Business Central

Is there an upgrade path from NAV 2018 to Business Central?

We have a client that wants to move to Business Central.  They have years of historical data.  Also, they have a custom granule that can be converted into an Extension.  How do we convert/upgrade their data and move that to Business Central?  Is the an upgrade path defined for NAV to Business Central yet?  We can get them to NAV 2018 easily enough but how do we go from 2018 to Business Central?

If you have .NET variables then in your NAV then Business Central doesn't support .NET

    2. You will have to convert your .fob files to .al using TextTOAL

    you can refer www.activebs.com/.../business-central-vs-dynamics-nav

Regarding data migration, actually you should use Configuration Packages (RapidStart), expoting data from NAV and importing into BC via XLS. In some scenarios where data to load has a very high volume, I recommend to use different ways such as loading data using web services or APIs.

Regarding customizations, all must be translated/recorded into Extensions with AL.

Okay so, a number of problems with this in our BCSandbox (latest build) docker image.  First when I select the RapidStart profile for my user the role center is completely blank and they are now menu functions of any kind.  But I can can search for Config. Worksheet, but NOT RapidStart.  So open the Config. WorkSheet page from search.

Next when I try to add a table from our Extension to the worksheet, which I need to populate, I get this error:

The field Table ID of table Config. Line contains a value (9095100) that cannot be found in the related table (Object).

So I can't use the RapidStart for Extensions???????

We understand the process of creating an extension and the restrictions therein.

RapidStart (Configuration Packages is the correct name) supports ONLY a certain set of tables, no G/L Entries and so on.

The default configuration package supports the following tables:

    Payment Terms

    Customer Price Group

    Shipment Method

    Salesperson/Purchaser

    Location

    GL Account

    Customer

    Vendor

    Item

    Sales Header

    Sales Line

    Purchase Header

    Purchase Line

    Gen. Journal Line

    Item Journal Line

    Customer Posting Group

    Vendor Posting Group

    Inventory Posting Group

    Unit of Measure

    Gen. Business Posting Group

    Gen. Product Posting Group

    General Posting Setup

    Territory

    Item Category

    Sales Price

    Purchase Price

For all the rest, my suggestion is: use APIs or WS.

Well in my BCSandbox this is what my RapidStart Role Centre looks like so what the heck?

    And here is "My Settings"

So can you point me at an example of the web service technique you are referring to.

BC is not impressing me with it's functionality.  NAV is has all sorts of ways to get data into that are NOT difficult and do NOT  require advanced  coding techniques for a such a simple process.

I totally agree with you but AT THE MOMENT D365BC has these limitations on the way you import data (mainly for tenant performance reasons). If you check D365BC demo company, you can find a package with supported tables.

Is there an example somewhere of using "loading data using web services or APIs."?
