Portals - how can i find which license type?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am panicking now, in the discontinuation document it says:-

"If your organization acquired legacy Adxstudio Portals v7 via a perpetual license, you may continue to use the current legacy Adxstudio Portals v7 product beyond August 1, 2018. If your organization uses legacy Adxstudio Portals v7 under a subscription license, and if your subscription expires before August 2018, you should contact adxquest@microsoft.com to get a key to use until August 2018. If your license is already active through August 2018, then you cannot extend the license and will have to migrate"

How can i tell what kind of license i have?

I assume if i migrate to the community edition i am safe?

    Hi Mike,

Most likely you have a perpetual license (I don't think Microsoft sold too many of the subscription licenses).  But the easiest way to check is to look at your license key (in the Settings area in CRM, look up Adxstudio License Keys).

Perpetual license keys won't have an expiration date.  Subscription licenses will.  Look for an <expiry> node - if you don't have one, it's perpetual.  For the one client we work with that had a subscription license, their key also contained <comment>Subscription</comment> as well.

    Hope that help.

    Hi Mike

    There are two portal version.

    xRM Portals Community Edition

As far as I know Its safe to Migrate to community edition. xRM Portals Community Edition is a fork of the open source release of Portal Capabilities for Microsoft Dynamics 365. I know one company start using paid support.  Community Edition is a project led by Adoxio who worked for Adx studio. There some limitation, please go through below link

There are two primary methods of obtaining support for this project:

    1. Community-driven support is available by submitting issues to this GitHub project
    2. Commercial support options are available from Adoxio

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Portals Source Code

You can use Microsoft portal source code . The source code is released under an MIT license which is a very permissive popular open source license. The source code is released as a one-time distribution with no plans on updating it, and it is offered as an as-is sample with no support.

Customers that choose this source code distribution are fully responsible for fixing any bugs they encounter, performing their own deployments, including hosting costs and other infrastructure licenses necessary to run the product

    HI Mike,

Upgrade subscription which included dynamics portal license and then upgrade your ADX to dynamics portal for future updates.

If you are using Adx self hosted portal then you can also choose dynamics self hosted source code that is very much similar to Adx studio.

    Thanks,

    Sandeep
