FRx vs Management Reporter

Hello Everybody,

We are using GP10 and FRx

We are planning to upgrade to GP2013 next year, and I have been told we will also have to move from FRx to MR.

Questions for those who have lived this transition ..

Can we continue using FRx or is it incompatible with GP2013?

How different is MR from FRx ? How steep is the learning curve? And what are the 'selling points' to moving to MR?

What happens with existing FRx reports? Is there a conversion tool, etc ..

I would especially appreciated feedback from any Finance folks who have lived the migration.

Thank you very much.

Maria.

    RE: FRx vs Management Reporter

One major shortcoming in MR is export of reports to Excel does not include formulas.   This has been a real problem for our organization with our complex reporting structure.

Another issue we have had is the use of MR for Analytical Accounting.   Even with the help of Microsoft Support, we have never been able to get reports at the AA level with MR.

Basic reporting is almost identical to FRX and works well.   We have been able to build a reliable consolidation that includes over 100 entities with elimination entries.

Nothing more valuable to add up to Mr. Ian's answer. I do believe that moving from FRx to Management Reporter is a must, we have a client which has recently upgraded from an older version of Dynamics GP to GP 2013, and one of the key reasons was to deploy MR.

It is worth saying that Management Reporter has wide more features and capabilities in comparison with FRx, such as:

    • MR is a web-based application, users can access reports simply through a web browser.
    • MR is an Excel-based reporting tool, which is why it is quite similar and familiar for users to get along and create their own reports. The copy-paste from Excel is an added value as well.
    • MR security console provides a security layer to manger who can view or modify financial reports.
    • Indentation is an edge
    • MR is a client -server application with its own SQL database.
    • Drill down capabilities on MR is a great added value and is highly desired by Financial People. It makes financial reporting more interactive especially when charts are added as well
    • .... and many other features

FRx reports can be simply migrated and deployed on Management Reporter. Another client which has recently upgraded Dynamics GP and moved from FRx to MR, has more than 10 GP companies, several financial reports and consolidation was involved. Moving to FRx has almost no issues at all.

Please never hesitate to share any further inquiries,

    RE: FRx vs Management Reporter

Hi - you must move to MR. FRx  is not an option. The basic reporting in MR is very similar to FRx - same concepts and it also looks very much alike [You will see Row Formats, Column Layouts and Reporting trees]. For most people the learning curve is not steep. There is a conversion tool that takes your existing FRx reports and migrates them into MR format. There can be some issues with this especially if you are using Account Categories in your FRx reports. And expect to be doing a small bit of editing to formulas once the reports are in MR. The installation and set up of MR [before you migrate reports] is a bit involved, so depending on your tech know how, you might want to look for expert help with this.
