How to delete field from a managed solution

Posted on by 550

Hi,

I need to delete a field from managed solution in production environment , because an unused field was imported from dev by mistake. Are there ways to do it without affecting other fields and custimizations in production system?

I have the updated version in dev environment now. If I delete the managed sol in production and again Import the updated version from dev to prod , will the data in managed solution be affected ? Because there are more than 5000 records in production ..or is there any other way to do it.

thanks

No, the cloning would actually replace your old base solution and patches if you got some, and merge them to a new base solution and would finally delete the old base solution and patches on your dev system.

It is explained very well here:

    debajmecrm.com/.../understanding-solution-cloning-feature-in-detail-in-dynamics-crm-2016

If you don't want that. You could also try to delete that field on the base solution on dev and change the major minor build number and proceed as with the cloned solution. I believe it used to work on my dev/test environment in the past as well.

If you delete the managed solution you will loose your data. So don't do this!

There is another approach with holding solution that is explained very well here:

    www.inogic.com/.../how-to-delete-component-from-managed-solution-in-dynamics-crm-2016

with that approach you can remove it very simple.
