business central sales and forecasting AI

Hi

I’m having ongoing issues getting the AI forecasting to use historical sales data. No matter what I try, the historical data is not being considered when I run the forecast update.
I have followed Microsoft’s guidance and imported the data in multiple ways, including:
Item Journals
Sales Item Journals
I have successfully loaded three years of historical data, and this is a seasonal industry, so there should be more than enough data for the AI to calculate a forecast. However, when I run the forecasting update, it behaves as if there is no historical data at all.
I have been working with Microsoft support on this issue for over six months, and they are still unable to explain why the historical data is not being picked up by the AI forecasting engine. They do have my data and said there is nothing wrong with it.
At this point, I’m reaching out to the wider community to see if anyone else has experienced a similar issue when importing historical data and using AI forecasting in Business Central. If anyone has found a workaround, configuration setting, or underlying cause that Microsoft may have missed, I would be extremely grateful.
The situation has become quite urgent, as the clients are understandably very upset that this functionality is not working as expected.
Any insight or advice would be very much appreciated.

    Hello ,

In most cases this happens because AI Forecasting does not read Item Ledger Entries or data loaded via Item / Sales Item Journals. The engine only uses posted sales demand, mainly Posted Sales Invoice Lines (and Credit Memos as negative demand), with matching Item, Location, Variant, and UoM. So even though inventory history exists, the AI sees no demand history and behaves as if there’s no data. The proven workaround is to load historical data as posted sales documents, not journals. This limitation is poorly documented, commonly missed by Microsoft support, and you’re definitely not alone.

Is the same problem in other environments? If you're in a hurry, I suggest trying a third-party AI extension.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Sad to say this but we've tried this functionality many times but it just doesn't work.
We tries understanding the back logic but only to find nothing as it uses some AI and other algorithms which are tough to understand and find underlying issue.
So we just do not suggest or use those functionality for any of the client.

And as YUN suggested find alternative app from Appsource.
