AWMS Put away without fixed locations

I'm thinking that this isn't doable, but wanted to check to see if anyone had any ideas on this.

My customer doesn't use fixed locations in their warehouse.  They do have Picking locations and bulk locations.  The problem I'm running into is that I don't really have any way to limit how many of an item goes into the picking area.

An example would be I have item #1 that has a quantity of 500 in the picking area.  If they receive 1000 more of the item they don't necessarily want all 1000 to go to the picking area taking up space that could go to another product.

I thought about sending everything to bulk and then doing a zone min/max replenishment, but they feel like that is handling things twice.

Can anyone think of any way to set a max on an item in a zone or in a picking location profile for a  PO put away process?

I have the same question (0)

I see, fair point. Thanks for the follow-up and good luck with the next steps!

Hey Sagar and Alice your suggestions are good.

Sagar, the issue I see with your approach is that it doesn't seem to take into account what is already in the picking location.  i.e. if there is already 400 in the picking location.

Alice, I had also thought about your approach.  The problem with the stocking limit is that is by location.  In other words if I set a stocking limit of 10 on the location profile picking for the item.  I can have the item stocked in 50 different locations that have 10 ea in them.

I'm going to speak with the client and see if they would be willing to setup fixed locations in the picking area.  I think this gets pretty messy if we don't do that.

Again thank you for your ideas.

    Hi Scott,

It might be that you have already validated this but did you have a look at the location stocking limits form already?

    Example

    1. For your location profile(-item) combination define the stocking limit

Figure 1. Location stocking limit config

    2. Configure your location directive in such a way that it first validates the pick location and after this proceed with validating the bulk locations. Note: below is just a quick example, you of course might want to adjust the naming and define other strategies like consolidate.

    Figure 2. Location directive config

    3. Create a purchase order and receive this order accordingly.

    Thanks,

RE: AWMS Put away without fixed locations

    Hi Scott Gaines,

Let me explain this with an example for nearest I have gone to achieve this in D365.

Lets say I have an item for which whenever we receive, I want that first 500 pcs should always be put away in picking locations and rest stock in bulk locations. 1 PL of this item is 500 pcs. Min order qty for this item is 5000 pcs.

So you would need to do location directive setup as below.

    pastedimage1591224093879v1.png

Location directive lines 1 is directed to put away to bulk locations and line 2 at picking locations.

Receive the first pallet of 500 pcs it gets moved to picking location.using line 2.

Now post the product receipt for the first pallet received. (Only pain area)

Receive the second pallet of 500 pcs and now it gets moved to bulk locations using line 1.

In my past for a similar requirement we made the remaining qty option smarter by considering registered qty to calculate remaining qty  thus eliminating the need to post product receipt to tell system something is received.

Another option could be to automate product receipt posting for registration. (If multiple product receipts posting is not an issue)
