running out SL license

My company has 25 SL license at the moment

the total user is approximately and it just recently grew to about 70 users

most of them only use SL occasionally.

my question is when it runs out of license. the USER will get an error message saying no more license available. Is there a way to capture this event and record WHO and WHEN

my end goal is by having a dataset of WHO and WHEN get "no more license" error for a certain period, is hopefully to determine how many more license to buy

PLS advise?

thank you

    RE: running out SL license

You can do the simple SQL Query to find out the user licenses count.

You can use the below query in SQL Job and send an email to your tech support team once the count reaches 25 as what Dwight & Randall Wade said earlier.

Select COUNT ( DISTINCT InternetAddress ) From Access where ScrnNbr LIKE '%%' AND ScrnNbr <> 'MENU'

You can use the below KB article for better understanding

    support.microsoft.com/.../848814

We do a similar method to what Dwight has mentioned. I set up a sql job that collects the user data and open screen counts on each of our company databases and dumps it into another db/table. Then I use SSRS to display usage graphs on our tech support Sharepoint site.

Looking at the graphs, we can identify peak times and user load as it spreads across the different company DBs (which we also use for diverting license cost to the correct place).

Also, you could likely use a similar method that could email mail a warning when your user count gets to a certain threshold if you wanted a more automated notification approach.

What version of DSL are you using?

I capture my number of users every 3 minutes to keep track of how close and how many times we hit the limit.  But the code is dependent on the version as some users do not count in the user count (like Application servers)
