Requisition Worksheet suggest transfer before purchase

I have a scenario where I have two locations:

  • Location 1 
  • Location 2 

When I run the Requisition Worksheet, I would like the system to:

  1. if a location requires inventory -> suggest transfer if it can be fulfilled with a transfer order from the other location
    1. for example, Location 1 has zero items in stock, Location 2 has 10 items in stock -> suggest a transfer from Location 2 to Location 1
  2. if both locations are empty -> suggest a purchase order

On an item/sku card we have the Replenishment System field with the following available options:

  • Purchase
  • Transfer
  • Prod. Order
  • Assembly

And we can only pick one option. Is my scenario possible somehow?

    It is not possible.  You define the rule, such as always Transfer from Loc 2 to Loc 1, and keep stock in Loc 2 via Purchase.  If Loc 2 runs out of Inventory, the Transfer to Loc 1 will be treated as demand and the system will suggest you buy to Loc 2 and then Transfer to Loc 1.

    You need to manage by exception.  If Loc 2 usually runs out of inventory and you usually buy to Loc 1, then set it up to be replenished by Purchase.  If Loc 2 usually has inventory, leave it as a Transfer.  If it is set to Transfer and the Planning Worksheet suggests both the Transfer and Purchase, your planner has the ability to change the suggestion (as an exception) and issue a Purchase to Loc 1 and remove the Transfer/Purchase at Loc 2.

    Someday Machine Learning will be able to process this scenario, but I have yet to see it today.

    Thanks Ben, im just wondering has anyone customized the functionality to accomplish something similar? i.e. look at transfers before suggesting a purchase

    I think there are extensions to do something along these lines.

    Netstock may be worth looking at.
