D365 Business Central functional limitation

Hi All,

we are currently conduting feasibility study for AX 2012 R3 upgrade to D365 Finance. One of evaluation goals is to check if requested functionality could be covered with D365 Business Central with customization. I have read many documents and understand that D365 Finance is way to upgrade from AX 2012 R3 and never came accros case upgrading from AX 2012 R3 to D365 Business Central. ALso understand that there is no support provided for moving from AX 2012 R3 to D365 BC. But I would like to understand if this is possible from functional point of view. Customer is utility company distributing electricity to home owners and companies. A would like to ask if some came across case moving from AX 2012 R3 to D365 Business Central, if this is not possible why and which are D365 BC major functional limitations preventing such implementation. Thank you in advance.

We did a re-implementation from AX to D365BC. I couldn't remember the AX version, but AX was a bit too much for their business, so they switched to BC. It's not an upgrade because there is no direct path to upgrade. You will need to re-implement it with opening balances. We didn't find any limitation on BC. We actually made it simpler for them to do their business.

Every case is different though, so you should ask your partner and review all the functionalities that you need and want. You may or may not find limitation on BC.
