Description line during sales order entry

Hello.  I am using GP 10.  When we enter a quote or order or invoice, we use the item code.  The item description is not shown on the 'order form' on the screen (unless you expand the bar).  Is there any

way to have the order form 'on the screen' customized to show the item description during order entry.

Thank you

It's easily accomplished with one of two tool sets available but neither are end user tools in my experience.  Dexterity or Modifier are the tools, you might have a license issue with those even ahead of the experience issue.

I'd suggest you mock up your changes and have a contractor or MSFT Professional Services give you a quote.  It's not a difficult task just typically becomes an iterative task to get the look you want (you will need to shrink and move a number of other top line fields) and then coming up to speed on how to manage security on the modified window.  Here is a look at an example...

Thank you Tim. So I take it that the item description will populate, but then the details below will always

show on the screen? or just until you go to next line item?

This is our window in the current release, we change it as the business needs change.

We don't enter line items as a rule (they are integrated) so the item number field was demoted so we could get a long description on the top line.  When our users add a line (rare) they typically will use the lookup and populate a new line by selecting an item from the lookup.  If they were to manually key an item they would have to expand the window and enter it in the item number field.  If that was a more prevalent process I would have the Item Description (Item on our window)  take the item number then push it to Item Number with a little more custom code.  As I say, this is not typical of changes you might need as much as an example of how you can morph the window for efficiency and still keep proper GP functionality.

For you, I would thing you would leave the item number field where it is but shrink it down, add the description as the next field and then hide or shrink as needed to fit in your key line fields on the top line.  The containing window and the scrolling window can also be widened to make more room on line one.  As I say it's a bit of an iterative process typically but we got great ROI and efficiency from changing our window and that seems like your goal so I thought I would send a reply.

Again, not an end user task but can be easily done by an experienced partner or contractor.

    Best

    Tim

If all you want to do is have the Sales Transaction Entry window open with the Sales Detail expanded, you could record a macro that opens the window and expands the detail.  Then set the macro as a hotkey or a Shortcut on your menu bar on the Home page and use that method to open the window.
