Hi all,
I have a rather extensive product catalog in our CRM and am looking to add further detail to each of the products.
I've not used Product Properties before but before I dive in headfirst would like to see what peoples opinions are on the best way to go about achieving my goal.
Let's say i have 3x products.
Each product shares some information, but then also has some unique information.
So shared information might look like
- Prod 1
- colour: black
- length: 150mm
- Prod 2
- colour: black
- length: 150mm
- Prod 3
- colour: black
- length: 150mm
Then with unique information
- Prod 1
- colour: black
- length: 150mm
- Prod 2
- colour: black
- length: 150mm
- Prod 3
- colour: black
- length: 150mm
Each product is priced individually (has its own specific part code that dictates price and specification), and so the Product property of 'power' would not be selected on the quote, instead, all properties would be read-only.
I've read that I can set properties at a product family level, and each product inherits from there. BUT, can I also have properties that are at the product level?
The information I'm looking to add is purely for information only. The properties will not be used to specify the product at the time of quote etc
Is this right way to be heading? I have quite a bit of information to add (potentially up to 40 fields per product).
The alternative I thought about was to add specific fields in the Product form and populate them separately (import/export for bulk update), but I think Product Family Properties could be quicker and easier to manage if I can achieve what I want?
Also, can the Product Properties be served up in a Portal? So if a customer is looking at a product on the portal, will they be able to see the properties?
