After GP 10 to GP 2013 upgrade, "dictionary not loaded" error preventing GP 2013 from loading.

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

After an upgrade to GP 2013, upon the first run of the program (as Administrator) I get the following error:

From here, I can click Ok but I get nothing but a white screen. I have to close GP which strands my log in, causing me to have to delete it the next time I open GP 2013.

I have installed the same modules that were used in GP 10, and every ISV but one that is being handled by that company has been installed. I cannot import customizations as I cannot get to Customization Maintenance after I try to log in.

Any ideas on what dictionaries could be missing? Could it be a Windows permissions error with the Dynamics folder?

    Thank you everyone for your help. After loading GP with a blank security ID for "sa"  with no modified forms and reports and reimporting customizations, I think we are all good here. Strangely, other users using DEFAULTUSER on the same server are not experiencing the problems "sa" was.

    Jonathan, your answer ended up being closest. DEFAULTUSER for "sa" was trying to pull windows from an ISV which was not loaded.

    The best thing for this error is a Dexsql.log. When the error is on the screen if you look at the log file there will be a call on the SY10800 table that looks like this:

    { CALL DYNAMICS.dbo.zDP_SY10800SS_1 ( 'DEFAULTUSER', 0, 210, 2 ) }

    In this case the user I was logged in as had the DEFAULTUSER modified forms and reports ID, they were accessing a window (window is 2, report is 23) from Microsoft Dynamics GP (prodid 0), with a security id of 210. This tells me that my Dynamics.set file should be pointing to a Forms.dic file and in this case it was not.

    You have products from Professional Advantage and Mekorma and Accountable Software. You must have a modified form that is being reference but is not loaded. First make sure all the DIC files you see listed here are on your computer. Everything is local so they will be in your GP 2013 program folder. If you can get into GP and then go to Tools->Setup->System->Alternate Forms and Reports you could set all of your forms to be the unmodified versions one by one until you find the one that is missing.

    Can you paste in here a copy of your GP 2013 DYNAMICS.SET file?

    The Set file has all of the same GP modules installed. Is it possible that an ISV not yet installed that also includes DexToNet could be the problem? That is the only difference between GP 2013 and GP 10 that I can think of in the Dynamics.set file as the GP 10 file of course has those entries and dictionaries.

    Copy forms.dic and reports.dic from a working machine to the problematic one. After that run the utilities with the task as synchronize forms and reports.

    If the reports and forms are not upgraded use the following link

    Since this was an upgrade, are you sure you are running GP 2013 and not GP 10? Make sure you are running the correct one by going to Start->Programs->Microsoft Dynamics->GP 2013. Also, check the DYNAMICS.SET from GP 10 and compare it to the DYNAMICS.SET file of GP 2013 to make you installed and upgraded all the GP add-ins.

    Sorry I should have more taken a little more time to re-read step 6.

    I believe you are just verifying that utilities has the correct path to your copies in step 6.
