Change Dimension Value Code

Hi,

Say that I misspelled the dimension value code "A100" and wrote "B100" and I worked on for some time, posted invoices and whatnot.

Later I realize that it should have been "A100" not "B100". It seems perfectly fine to change code from "B100" to "A100" and all posted transactions and documents are as far as I can tell corrected properly.

Why is it that I keep hearing and reading about that you can not change posted stuff this way when it works perfectly fine when I try it? I assume this is my lack of understanding so please help me understand

Another related question

Is it possible to "merge" two dimension value codes?

Say that I have already added A100 and I want to rename B100 to A100 how would that be done in the easiest way?

Dimension correction tool on the B100 transactions?

Thanks for any input Cheers!

    RE: Change Dimension Value Code

Well I guess it was exactly as I said in my post but it is nice to have it confirmed by someone else :)

I have also made some additional tests during the day and renaming a dimension value code changes everything posted correctly (documents and general ledger entries). Correcting (to change some things selectively) is working fine as well for when you do not want to change the history.

I still find it odd that this matter is so confusing when googling when it isn't harder than this.

Let's close it for now :) Thanks!

    Hi Rasmus

System would allow you to correct Dimensions only for GL Entry from General Ledger Entries page by clicking on Correct Dimensions function but you can't update in other posted document's like Customer Ledger Entries, Item Ledger Entries, Vendor Ledger Entries etc.

As suggested and quite logical also,  Don't rename the Dimension value, instead of doing this Create another Dimension Value and mark the previous value as Blocked so that it will not show in any transaction.

    Hope it will help you.

you need to create new "Dimension set ID" that have A100 and your required dimension. and update form  backend.

you need developer who is expert in dimension.

    RE: Change Dimension Value Code

    Hi

Regarding changing the size, it is possible to do so now on BC via this action on the General Ledger Entry:

while for the second question, I don't think you can rename dimensions already present in an accounting entry

you could, however, do it this way:

you create a new dimension and with a reclaim, via your partner you can associate that dimension with the entries that have both A100 and B100

    RE: Change Dimension Value Code

    Hello Rasmus,

If you only need to rename a Dimension caption, it can be easily done be renaming it in Dimension,  just rename it. But please confirm, which caption you are going to update it does not already there. For example, mistakenly you created a Dimension code / Dimension Value created as ALPHA1 , and already have ALPHA2, so you cannot rename ALPHA1 to ALPHA2.

Search Dimension in Tell me, and rename the Dimension which you want to rename it. It will take some time as the data you have in the system. You can also rename Dimension Values too. It will take time to update everywhere the dimension values is flowed.

    Other Related Questions you asked:

No, you cannot merge two dimension value code. But instead of that, you can use Dimension correction tool here. You can select a required dimension value on the transactions which have dimension value which is to be removed or replaced.

Don't do that, instead use Dimension correction tool. After corrections done, do not use the B100 dimension value.

Dimension Correction tool, is used when you need to update a dimension in posted transactions, not when you want to renaming the dimension code or dimension value.

If my answer helped you, maybe it can help others, please verify it, so other users know it worked or helped you.

    Thank you.
