Error: BOM not specified when creating production

Hi, I see the following error, from time to time, when the system is attempting to firm a planned production order. I can't really find any reference to this error online, except for a couple of other times when someone has asked about it but not get any responses.

I can take the item number, config, bom ID, etc. and manually create a new production order successfully - it's just when firming the planned order that this occurs. We have nightly running of MRP with full regeneration, so it's not like it's some old planned order sitting there that might no longer have a valid BOM reference. Anyone else experience this issue, or have thoughts on resolution?

Hi Craig,

Could you please check if BOM and BOM version is made active and approved ? Could you please share screenshot of it ?

Hi,

As I noted in my opening post, I can go to the production orders screen and successfully create a new production order, manually, with all of the same details as the planned production order (item number, BOM, configuration) - so there is no issue with the released product itself or the BOM / BOM Version

However, here are screenshots of the (approved) BOM and (approved/active) BOM Version

Hi Craig,

Thanks for sharing this.

Could you please check below navigation and do let me know if that works ?

1. Go to Product information management > Products > Released products.

2. Open the relevant product.

3. On the Engineer Fast Tab, set the Production type field to Planning item, BOM, or formula as per the End product.

Do let me know if that works ?

Hi,

It's already set to "BOM". As I also noted, this error only occurs from time-to-time - and we have plenty of other different released products for which planned production orders are generated, and can be firmed without this error occurring.

Hi Craig,

If this issue is not repetitive or working abnormal without any changes made just try the same in your standard test environment that has no customizations involved.

If you still feel you are getting this issue occasionally then you may need to reach MS support with trace so that they may give you an Update.

To resolve this you can try below step -

- Remove the BOM/Formula from planned order line.

- Save the record

- Refresh the D365 screen from browser

- Update BOM/Formula on planned order line again

- Firm the planned order

You can try to re-run the master planing and try to firm the order.

It worked for me.
