Opening Stock Import - Warehouse Physical Inventory Journal

Hello Experts,

We are enabled Directed pick and put-away and using advanced warehouse management in Business Central. The inventory items are enabled for LOT tracking.
For importing the opening inventory stock, I could use Warehouse Physical Inventory Journal and few items opening stock registered successfully.
Only the defaults field values are filled. See the below screen shots.

For importing bulk inventory item opening stock, I used configuration package to import data to the Warehouse Physical Inventory Journal.
In the configuration package, I used the Table 7311 and fields are selected same as above in the journal screen shot for importing the data. The data is filled in the excel template.
The data is imported without errors,
But when registering the Journal, it is showing error as From Zone Code must have a value. See the below screen shot.
The From Zone code field is not included in the template. But this error is getting. When manually entering the details and registering Warehouse Physical Inventory Journal, there is no such error. The error is getting only when importing the data even though the From Zone Cod is not included in the Template.

Appreciate if you could share your thoughts to solve this error or share the best practice for importing opening inventory stock quantity where directed pick and put-away enabled with advanced warehouse management in Business Central.

The Business Central version is: IN Business Central 24.3 (Platform 24.0.22619.0 + Application 24.3.21374.21517)
I have the same question (0)

Opening Stock Import - Warehouse Physical Inventory Journal

When importing opening inventory via Warehouse Physical Inventory Journal in a Directed Pick and Put-away (WMS) enabled location, the error "From Zone Code must have a value" typically appears due to missing system-generated fields that are auto-populated during manual entry — but not during config package imports.

✅ Why You Get This Error:

In WMS-enabled locations, Business Central expects:

    • From Zone Code and From Bin Code to be valid and match your Bin Type setup (e.g. “RECEIVING”, “PUT-AWAY”).

    • When entered manually, BC assigns these based on the Default Bin Setup.

    • But when you import using Table 7311 (Warehouse Phys. Invt. Journal Line), these are skipped unless you explicitly provide them.

    ✅ How to Fix It:

Option 1: Add Required Fields in Config Package

Make sure the following fields are included in your config package:

    • Location Code
    • Zone Code
    • Bin Code
    • From Zone Code
    • From Bin Code

➡️ Tip: These fields should match the default bins defined for the item/location.

Option 2: Use Item Journal Instead (if WMS is too strict)

    • Use Item Journal instead of Warehouse Journal (Table 83).
    • This avoids strict bin validations but may not update warehouse entries if WMS is active.

Option 3: Temporarily Disable Directed Pick & Put-away

    • Disable it for initial stock load (if feasible).
    • Import using standard Physical Inventory Journal.
    • Then re-enable WMS settings after stock load.

Try using Warehouse Item Journal (or was it Warehouse Journal)..
Physical inventory journals are used for periodic inventory adjustments, not for the initial import of opening stock.
