Is it possible to change the CustomerID?

Is it possible to change the CustomerID on a customer? Since the field isn't autonumber in the database, will it cascade update all related tables if i change it? Is there an easier way to do it?

We have old accounts from a previous company, and they prefixed many of the customer names with special characters, and we dont want those.

There is a tool available from Microsoft called Customer Modifier that will go through all the tables in the company database and update a Customer ID. This is the only way I would recommend changing the Customer ID because there is nothing you can do in the database to have it automatically 'cascade' to related tables. You would have to find all the related tables yourself and update them. And while this may be plausible for tables where the field is called CUSTNMBR, what about tables where it's called something else? By the time you track all this down and test and troubleshoot it, you will be much better off purchasing the tool.

Ma'am,

Modifier is available free ? I used Profiessonal Service Tools but don't thin PST we have option to change Customer Number.

Customer Modifier is part of the PSTL, but it is not one of the free tools.

You can use MS Customer Modifier or Corporate Renaissance's Changer. Changer is the more robust and stable product.

it also appears that the professional tools are only available to partnersource members, not in customersource.

The PSTL is installed from your installation media. Just go to Add/Remove program and seclect change modules and you will see it listed there. However, I agree that Changer is a superior product.

To change Id press on option button and select record information Rename
