Does the Payroll module has it's own security?

Hi,

I have been asked to create a new user in GP and copy access from existing user.

Existing user can access the  'Payroll Employee Setup - Canada' window which is part of Canadian Payroll module

However the new user is getting permission error on attempt to access the same window.

I'm wondering if the payroll module has it's own security?

Thank you,

    Hello Alaa,

It should all be the same security roles and tasks used by all modules and users, including any windows/forms for the Canadian Payroll module.

Before I sent this, I searched more and wonder if you may not be talking about Employee Level Security in Canadian Payroll for Microsoft Dynamics GP? Here is some information on that:

    support.microsoft.com/.../employee-level-security-in-canadian-payroll-for-microsoft-dynamics-gp

This could be what you're running into, because I don't know that copying user security would copy this Employee Level Security for CanPay like it does the regular security roles and tasks.

Let us know if you have any questions.

    Thank you,

we found a big hole in the security of payroll where MFGing users had access to the whole employee card.

We contacted GP and they supplied a fix...not a great one because if users poke around...they can find it again.

This is one of the many reasons we dumped Canadian Payroll this year and use an outsourced service.

    HI Tami,

Can you ellaborate more on this ? I'm surprised by that, but honestly haven't looked more deeper into cross-links in the security tasks & roles of GP, where Manufacturing users would be able to peak into CPY data..

any link to employee in the work centers, CRP ...all drill into the employee card...because the canadian payroll also populates the default US payroll cards to integrate into the financial and MFG modules

once you drill in....you can then add additional fields revealing DOB, SIN and home address etc

totally against our privacy laws in Canada

also we have gotten tired of the constant cost of upgrading our servers hardware, OS, Sql and GP for a tax update. This year we will save well over $15,000 in upgrade costs by outsourcing our payroll.

    Thank you Tami,

I'm very well aware of the design flaws of the Canadian Payroll that does make use of the US payroll tables, and yes, as the KB states from Microsoft, this CPY Employee Security will only help prevent 'watching' data from the Canadian Payroll side of things, but not protect you from the US Payroll data, which is then still fully accessible, especially in the SmartLists.

This could probably only be prevented by tightening the resource security (forms & reports) on both side of the things and prevent cross-links from other modules to allow employees to peak into the PR data (CPY & US).

I'm not really surprised as the Canadian Payroll module was a purchased add-on years back from a Canadian ISV and wasn't probably meant to be used with both PR modules at the same time (which is still a challenging configuration when companies are running both entities).
