AD Version needed for making API Calls to Microsoft Dynamics CRM

We have an on-prem Dynamic CRM with 2008 R2 Active Directory.

Presently, we are using WCF to make Read/Write to CRM and want to replace with Web API calls.

So, what version of Active Directory is needed as I do not see an option of Application Groups in 2008 AD?

And is there any other way that I could get an OAuth Access Token which will be used to make authorized calls to CRM?
