I have a small computer repair business and one of my customers is using an older version of Dynamics RMS POS. Her system is comprised of one server and two registers. The server and one of the registers is working fine, however the other register is not. Register #2 opens a full screen IE page to MSN.com when I launch the program. It does this under all user accounts. The webpage cannot be closed and nothing else can be seen. Last week she was having issues where the lower part of her screen kept moving and changing sizes each time the program was launched. I could change the size and position and it would fix it until a restart or logoff/logon. Could these two issues be related? Any ideas as to what I could look at? I'm not very familiar with this program, so please be gentle...

Hi. It might be relevant that some versions of windows will not let the user write to the registry, so you do the settings in the POS (ctrl-F6) but they don't hold. The answer to this is to open the registry as admin and do the changes there (HKLM, Retail Management, SO, display) and it will stick. If it is a 64 bit machine you have to go to the wow64 node thing.
That setting usually stays, and I don't know of a way to specifically lock it in other than using the admin security mode to block access to the control F6 screen settings.
This does happen to be one of two randomly routine things that happen in RMS POS.
1) When the program is quit unexpectedly, it will randomly open up with no screen info showing, but the icon in the status bar shows the program is open... in that case, do the Control F6 and go to the Window selection. The -32000 X and Y values of screen position will be in place, and need to be set back to 0, 0. We have 19 workstations, and this happens randomly once every couple weeks on one pc or another.
Sometimes co-workers will accidentally hit the wrong settings when attempting to correct the "off sides" screen issue on their own, which results in weird POS configurations like your full screen HTML window.
2) The other odd, random, unrelated other than glitchy, thing that happens is when the program unexpectedly is closed down, it won't open. In this case, the icon, if pinned to the task bar, will not show the app to be open. It is, however, open in the Task Manager. Go to Task Manager, processes, and quit SOPOSUSER.exe. Then the POS program will open normally again.
I know these item are not related other than useful information to keep on hand, so hopefully they are accepted here.
Thanks Rick! That got me to where I needed to be. For some reason, the Net Display was turned on, full screen, with no re-sizable border, and the Transaction screen and touchscreen keyboard were both set as -32,000 as their left and top positions. Is there a way to lock in the values I've selected to be the defaults so they can't change again? I've made the changes under an admin account, but am afraid to log off and then back in with a user account for fear the settings will be lost again.
It could be the window settings in RMS POS.
With the RMS POS program open, press Control then the F6 key. It shows the screen percentages allowed for various options. If you compare the settings from the pcs that work, to the one that doesn't work, you may solve the problem.
