Password field in grid

If I set the Passwordstyle in a string field in a grid, the characters I enter will be replaced by â€¢â€¢â€¢â€¢ - but only while I have focus in the string field.

As soon as I leave the field the "password" is displayed in plain text.

As far as I know this behaviour existed also in Ax 3.0. Is this by design? Any known workarounds?

(I am aware that passwords should not be stored as plain text, but in this case I would be happy just to be able to hide the password in the grid...)

What is the use of showing the password (shown as ****) in the grid? It serves no quick viewing purposes, and this is what the grid is mainly for.

I suggest to remove the password from the grid (see above reasoning) and put it in a seperate tab/group or dialog.

If you really really really need to do this, you could use an edit method instead of a data field, returning *** for display. But I am sure that this will cause other side-effects which are unwanted.

Well, the grid field has a Passwordstyle property, so even if it is not the best way, the result is a bit surprising.

My table only has  4 fields and I cannot see any reason to add a tab just for the sake of displaying one single field in Passwordstyle when the grid is already there.

So I will probably go with the display method. Thanks for the hint.
