CRM 4.0 Outlook Client - Performance Issues....

Hi All,

We have  recently rolled out CRM 4.0 across the whole company and in most cases people are functioning with no problems.

There are however a few cases of really poor Outlook performance with the  CRM addin installed. Freezing when opening mails, crashing when browsing around, basically making outlook unusable.

I have noticed that all my office 2007 users are fine and the only people complaining are running XP and Office 2K3.

We are running Rollup Update 4 or 5 on clients and 5 on all servers.I am just downloading 6 as we speak.

Just wondering if anyone had any configuration tips they would like to share as i am struggling with this now!

Regards

Andi

    Email Server - E2K7, Windows 2K8

Email Router - Windows 2K8, VM.

    SQL - SQL 2005, Windows 2K8

    CRM - Windows 2K8, VM

Try running the client side diagnostics tool in support mode and reviewing the logs generated.  That should give you some fairly verbose data to refer to with these machines.

Before doing that, you may also want to cross-compare hardware specs too just to make sure there's not an obvious physical difference that could be the culprit.  Also check the number of messages in their inbox...that plays a fairly large role in client side Outlook performance (especially with desktop search running!).

     Thanks Alan,

The hardware we run is identical across the board, Tecra M9 with 2Gb RAM - so i would be surprised if that is the issue.

I like the number of mails in the inbox, some of my users are a pain in the backside!! Do you know what a good item count is?

Also going to check out the support mode diagnostics as that sounds interesting!

Yes, try to keep the number of items in the inbox less than 1000.  Depending on the user, that might mean an auto-archive setting every month (like what I use personally).  If you find that many of the messages are junk or spam, then obviously a spam filter/killer will help - but that doesn't sound like the problem.

For the diagnostics, just go to the CRM Programs group from the start menu and you'll find it; the rest is pretty self explanatory...
