Fixed Assets Notes

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Found a notes issue for Fixed Assets in GP10 and GP2010 (11.00.2248).  Can anyone else replicate this?  Does this work properly in GP2013?

Cards > Fixed Assets > Book

Use lookup to select an Asset ID.

Open notepad, notice it ends with -000

4848.5.JPG

When try to save the note the message pops up: The note ID has not been set.

However, if use any arrow at the bottom of the window first, then use lookup to select an item…

The notepad now ends with “001” asset suffix and saves properly.

In short: The arrows must be used once when the window is first opened.  After that, the lookup button can be used without the note issue...

    RE: Fixed Assets Notes

I have been able to reproduce this case exactly on my test machine, on the click on note icon, the stored procedure (zDP_SY03900SS_1) is called out to retrieve any associated notes with the Master Asset Book.

    • Table SY03900 | Record Notes Master

The number shown on the top of the note window "-000" ensues that there the note index is not called . Once the number is "-001" after clicking the "next arrow", you can smoothly record your note in the Record Notes Master.

I might need further testing in order to understand it and provide more logical justification. So far, I could definitely assure you that I the case is reproduced on my test environment (GP2013 SP2)

Can anyone confirm if this behavior is still present in GP2013?

We have already verified that all the records do have note index populated.  It just doesn't get "called" if you first open the window then use lookup to select an asset.

This is an old issue actually, and as long as you can recreate this bug on a master record, then there is an absolute need for fixing it. The main cause for this issue is that the note being saved couldn't didn't have "note index" populated (for some reason, in your case when you click "attach"),although, it does gets a note index when you click the "next arrow" button, and therefore, get saved.

There is an easy fix by Mr.  David Musgrave, check his article on Fixing missing Note Index values
