Table Import Utility Questions

Customer wants to import journal entries from excel and does not own Integration Mgr.  We thought about Table Import.  I haven't worked w/this product in years and know that it has many limitations.  I understand basically how to use it but still have some questions.  If I want to import the entry, I am assuming I use the Transaction Work GL10000 and the Transactions Amts Work GL10001.  I realize I need to create 2 separate imports for the header and the detail.  My question is do I need to have a source identified for EACH field?  Is there no way to default anything in? I see that you can add a constant. 

What do you do for Journal Entry if you want to use the next default JE?  Also, it appears that you have to use the Account Index instead of the account number in the source file - is this correct?

Does anyone have a how to document on setting up this GL Journal Entry import?  If so, please send to nancy.hogan@tectura.com.

Also, if there is some other way to import the entry from excel w/out Int. Mgr, I would be interested to find out.

    Thank you for replying back and the detailed information.  Does the Integration for Excel program work with GP 10.0?  If so, yes I would be interested if you could send me the info.

     in addition to what has been written..

    usually when I'm using table import for GL journal, I am using GP journal entry window to create the header and batch information, as if creating a blank journal [without lines]. then I go to table import function to upload detail or GL10001. 

    To answer your question:

    ===not all fields, only those important in the table. fields such as dex row will auto populate. you can also use constant. the best way is to query the table from sql.

    ===sometimes having it blank will default [but not all fields]

    ==there is what we call Integration Assistant for excel. a vb program in excel. let me know if you want to go to this path.

    The Table Import is not really easy to use this way.  You need to setup a batch and attach all of the entries to the batch.  for a user to do this well regularly, they need to be sharp.

    There is a third party product that imports only Journal Transactions directly from spreadsheets.  There is also SmartConnect that does this and much much more.
