I have ms dynamics sl 7 with sp1 or fp1 installed with business portal with sharepoint 2007.

I have new server 2008 with sql and sharepoint foundation 2010 and wonder if I can just install new system sl 2011 and then just import/copy the databases from sl 7. would that work?

still in testing, did not golive, but have setup data and projects there and also business portal was setup. thanks

    Hi,

You should be able to install the full version of SL 2011 on your new server then copy over your SL databases and restore them.  Once restored, you can pick up with the install guide at the step where you upgrade your databases in database maintenance.  I would recommend consulting KB 847681Restoring the Microsoft Dynamics SL databases for troubleshooting

    mbs.microsoft.com/.../KBDisplay.aspx

This KB will walk you through the process of restoring your DB's on a new server and updating the domain table to reflect the new server name.
