I am trying to install Nav 2013 and already have Nav 2009 R2 installed. The server for 2013 is "Stopped". I have followed the instructions for installing multiple Navision programs on one computer but that hasn't helped. Can someone help me with this please.

Did you try by changing the Client Services Port Number in NAV Administration for NAV2013.

I changed the client serves port from 7046 t0 7049 and was able to get the server to start. Now when I try to start Navision I get a message looking for the server address. I entered localhost:7049/DynamicsNAV but the message say that I must have the wrong URL

Default NAV2013 Servicetier will be DynamicsNAV70

    So try localhost:7049/DynamicsNAV70

That worked, thank you very much!

Also, I was wondering how I can open a database that is connected to my 2009 R2 classic client with 2009 R2 RTC. If this was a classic client I would choose file-database-open but I have no idea how to connect to a database with an RTC client.

Did you try to open NAV2009R2 RTC? Did you get any error message?

On top left click on Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Click Select Server

Enter the URL with server name and port and serviceinstance..

Both databases (2009 and 2013) work perfectly now. The issue I now have is that I restored a database from a third party vendor with a 2009 classic client. I would like to open this database with a 2009 R2 client. I probably have to stop the server for the R2 client and point to the this database but I do not know how to do this.

The 2009 classic  client is not connected to a server, it is just local

You need to change the Database name in Custom Settings file which will be found under

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\60\Service

Dont forget to restart the Service after changing the custom Settings file..
