Is it possible to convert a Static list to a Dynamic list?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am trying to convert a static contacts list to a dynamic list, since we are having difficulty syncing our list to MailChimp and this may be the solution. I see that Static is locked and nothing happens when I click on this when viewing the list, so I am just wondering if there is a way to convert it.

Thanks

    Hello,

There is no real way to convert a Static list to a Dynamic one.

Static lists are built manually by users by, adding Accounts, Contacts or Leads to them and Dynamic lists are built automatically based on a search query. Because a Static list doesn't have any saved search query, the system wouldn't be able to determine which records should be on the list and why.

If you've created your Static list by selecting Accounts, Contacts or Leads based on certain a search query, you can replicate that query in a Dynamic list and Dynamics will automatically fill the list for you.

As for syncing with MailChimp, please make sure that your add-on or integration supports Dynamic marketing lists, as not all of them do. Most integrations assume the use of Static lists because, from an integration/developer standpoint, they are easier to synchronize.
