CRM 2011 Outlook plugin has a problem with webformshost.exe on Win 10 + Office 2016

Hi everyone,

I had some problems with CRM2011 Outlook plugin on Win10+Office 2016. Since it seems to be an Office problem that seems to come up in similar fashion elsewhere, I hope that maybe someone could help even though there is some confusion whether or not CRM2011 will be supported and these difficulties might be fixed in RU19 (whenever this will be released).

The problem is that I can open the CRM2011 but everytime there should be a pop up it does not work. So, I did a little digging...

It seems to be a problem with the WebFormsHost. If ther is noMicrosoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.WebFormsHost.exe.config present in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Client\res\web\bin I receive

an error message that the webform host crashed, I can go to the CRM but if I choose something the whole Outlook crashes. Then i get the following error in the log file for each click on an entry

[2016-01-07 16:20:14.964] Process:Microsoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.WebFormsHost |Organization:00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 |Thread:    1 |Category: Shared |User: 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 |Level: Error |ReqId:  | OutlookClientContextFactory.OutlookContext  ilOffset = 0x2

  at Microsoft.Crm.Outlook.Services.WebFormsHost.Program.SetupClientContext()
  at Microsoft.Crm.Outlook.Services.WebFormsHost.Program.Main(String[] args)

If there is an empty Microsoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.WebFormsHost.exe.config, Outlook opens without error pop ups, I can see the CRM entries but cannot do anything that creates a new webform, e.g., editing. In the log file there is the following:

>WebFormHostProxy::CheckREtryCountAndKill
[2016-01-07 16:28:33.718] Process:OUTLOOK |Organization:4371b8ba-8101-4a85-baf3-e3b64d735f2a |Thread:    8 |Category: Application.Outlook |User: 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 |Level: Error |ReqId:  | ContinuationTaskFromTask.InnerInvoke  ilOffset = 0x49

  at Microsoft.Crm.Outlook.Services.RemoteActionHandler.<>c__DisplayClass2c.<Authenticate>b__28()
  at System.Threading.Tasks.Task.InnerInvoke()
  at System.Threading.Tasks.Task.Execute()

And if i put something in it, e.g. a copy of Microsoft.Crm.Application.Hoster.exe.config containing:

<configuration>
<system.net>
<defaultProxy useDefaultCredentials="true" />
</system.net>
</configuration>

nothing I get the same result as I do not have anything... Since we don't have a proxy I could not put anything else in it. Maybe someone has an idea. I googled for hours and did not get anything.

In a nutshell, it seems that it is no problem of Win 10 but rather it is something else, so it might could moved to another forum, but for now I leave it here.

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,

Patrick

    Hello Patrick,

    CRM 2011 is supported with Windows 10 after installing UR 17 as per the compatibility list added below.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3005163

    Let me know what is the CRM Server update rollup installed.

    Have the same update rollup version installed on CRM Server and CRM Client for Outlook 2011 version in Client machine -> reconfigure the CRM organization and confirm the behavior.

    Do let me know if that helps.

    Regards

    Hi Rakesh,

    sorry for the late response, was a little busy. Nevertheless, I checked the versions before on both machines (Server and Client) have the latest UR 18 (version 5.0.9690.4376) installed. Going back a version cannot help because we have a heterogeneous environment, that partially needs UR 18.

    However, I think, it should work anyway, since the UR are cumulative updates anyway...

    Can you may provide a valid webhostform...config that should work in an environment without a proxy?

    Thanks in advance,

    Regards,

    Patrick

    Hi,

    We have just installed Office 2016 onto a small number of PCs in our IT department to test it, ever since installing it when outlook is opened any machine that has the CRM outlook client installed receives an error popup

    "Microsoft.Crm.Application.Outlook.WebFormsHost has stopped working"

    We receive three popups all declaring the same.

    Closing these popups everything else appears to work fine, though I must admit I am still testing a number of things.

    Has anyone got a fix for this? Is it something to be concerned about?

    Matt

    This will fix the issue:

    Reg edit → HKEY_CURRENT_USER → Software → Microsoft → MSCRMClient → added a new DWORD 32 key named as 'UseWebFormProcessIsolation' → Set the value to 0 → Restart Outlook.

    Gabriel,

    you made my day.

    The fix works perfectly!!! I almost thought that there won't be any solution.

    Thanks a lot!
