Is there a way to print out a report for a given period of time? For example, a full year, a month?

It depends on the report. In many reports you can set a filter on the request page.

It depends also on the information you want to see.

You could have a look at report "G/L Register":

If you want to see all journals which have been registered "in" a period then use a filter on "G/L Register" - "Creation Date".

If you want to see all journals which have been registered "for" a period then use a filter on "G/L Entries" - "Posting Date".

You could also look at "Customer Register" or "Vendor Register".
