Hi - can anyone direct me to a nonprofit template for CRM Online or to nonprofit best practice for using CRM Online?

You can download Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Nonprofits from this link : pinpoint.microsoft.com/.../12884966936

I have tested it on CRM 2013 on-premises, and Im not sure if it will work on CRM 2015 Online.

After reviewing your links it is still unclear to me how we can begin using this nonprofit template functionality on CRM Online. How do we activate it? We have a subscription to 'Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Basic' and Office 365 NonProfit E3. We are based in The Netherlands.

Unfortunately, we did not find the CRM for Non-Profits solution to work well on 2015 or 2016 (they stopped supporting it after 2013, so that's not terribly surprising). We're doing all of our own customizations by hand. I've posted a few questions in here that raised some discussion on best practices, including:
