You should use an item with a reservation hierarchy where Batch is below Location

    Hello,

Thank you for your answer, I tried it but when the batch is below location in the reservation hierarchy, the FEFO reservation of batchs doesn't work at all, we have to write or scan the batch number for each picking operation!! Is that normal ? I mean: Does AX work like that when the Batch is below Location in the reservation hierarchy?

If you are attending AXUG, I have a session on Friday where I am covering exactly this topic. Let me know if you are not, and I will try to explain the possible solutions once I get some time.

You can in fact have FEFO apply even when using Batch Below (with certain limitations, of course).

    OK, I am back.

There are at least 2 options that give you almost the same result, but use a batch-below reserv. hierarchy item.

    1. batch below with strategy

Regular batch below item. The trick is on the location directive on the location directive action you need to mark the line as batch enabled, and then select strategy = FEFO batch reservation.

This way, when work is generated, it will figure out which batches are going to expire first and guide the work user to pick from those locations.

With this approach, the initial work will be created correctly, exactly based on FEFO, but the work user will be able to if necessary pick a different batch number (potentially from another location). You also have a setting on the mobile device menu item to Force the user to pick oldest batch from a location. Alternatively you can simply organize your locations in a way that you don't have batches with different expiration dates on them (there's also a setting about mixing batches on the warehouse management parameters for this).

    2. batch below sorting

Regular batch below item. You set up the location directive action query to sort based on expiration date. This way, it will suggest you the location with the oldest batch.

Note, however, that for real FEFO this requires that you organize your locations correctly, do not allow mixed batches. It could also be OK if you don't need to enforce strict FEFO, but just want to try to pick oldest batches.

The down-side of using batch below is that some of the features like same batch reservation, batch attributes and customer sellable days do not apply when it comes to batch below. So keep that in mind.

    Hi Ivan,

I wonder what is the criteria when we have two or more batches with the same names and expiration dates.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards.

    Hi,

Two batches with the same name (same Batch ID) for the same Item are one Batch, aren't they?

    Hi,

Yes, you're right Ivan. I was trying to ask about an scenario where you have two or more batches (same ID's and dates) in different locations. What's the criteria to select them. What location will be suggested?

    Thanks for helping.

    Hi Migu31s7,

As discussed above by Ivan if you have same batches for one item at different locations and the current batch is with the earliest expiration date and the location directive is setup for this item with strategy "FEFO batch reservation" then the system wants to select the same batch which is with earliest expiration date but it is located at two different locations, in such case system will select location based on the sorting settings in the query for the item in location directive.

For example Batch 01 with expiration date of 1/7/2017 and its located as

    Location

    40000 -     Batch 01 -      40 pcs

    47777 -     Batch 01 -      70 Pcs

So if the sorting is setup as " Location - Ascending" in the query AX will select location 4000 to pick the items or if the sorting is setup as "Location - Descending" AX will select location 47777.
