CRM 2013 on-premises - change the SQL server.

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hello everyone,

I’ve moved the SQL server from one machine to another for CRM 2013 on-premises, earlier it was DB-06 and now it’s DB-03.
I’ve performed the steps as specified in following URL,
https://community.dynamics.com/…/changing-a-microsoft-dynam…

After doing so, I can browse the CRM successfully but the reports are not working, neither system nor custom.

Can anybody please advise what else needs to be done to make the reports working?

    Hello Mahdeo,

No report server and database are not on the same server.

In current setup, there 4 servers.

    1. Active Directory Server

    2. CRM Frontend components

    3. Backend components

    4. DB server, i.e. SQL server and SSRS reporting services

In above points, servers #2 and #3, I moved them to another DB server i.e. DB-03, which is again a CRM DB server for another CRM instance. Hence, SQL server and reporting extensions were already installed there.

I even tried to repair the reporting extensions there but no luck.

    Thanks,

    Ankit

    Hello Mahadeo,

I can browse reports from report server. The database server and URL at deployment manager are correct and point to DB01 only.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ankit

When you trying to browse reports from CRM, are you getting any error?

If you post that error, might be help to resolve problem.

Also take a look into Event logs on servers.. it will give you more details about errors.

    Hello Ankit,

Try Publishing the reports using PublishReports.exe.

Open a command window and Navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Tools\ and run PublishReports.exe

Requires a parameter - being the Organisation Name.

    E.g. PublishReports.exe "OrganizationName"

    Hello Mahadeo,

I'm getting the following errors in event viewer at SQL server machine.

    1. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database 'MSCRM_CONFIG'.

    2. The description for Event ID 17204 from source MSCRMTracing cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

    Thanks,

    Ankit

Are you saying you have a single SQL server for two different CRM deployments? SSRS Reporting Extensions can only be used for one CRM deployment per install of the extensions. You will need to run two separate report servers for two separate CRM deployments.

(Note: 2 deployments, not 2 or more Organisations on the same deployment). Count your MSCRM_Config databases to decide if you have more than one deployment.

    Hello Adam,

    Thank you for the response.

No, we do not have a single SQL server for two different CRM deployments.

Actually, at present we have two setups.

    Setup 1 - Old setup

    1. Webserver01 (Front end components)

    2. Webserver02 (Back end components)

    3. DB server - 01 (SQL database and reporting services)

    Setup 2 - New setup

    1. Webserver03 (Front end components)

    2. Webserver04 (Back end components)

    3. DB server - 02 (SQL database and reporting services)

Now, for setup 2, I moved it to DB Server -01 from DB server 02.

Hence, reporting services were already present on that server as Setup 1 was running there.

After changing the DB server for Setup 2, I can run the CRM successfully but the reports are not working, neither system nor custom.

    Please advise.

    Thanks,

    Ankit
