Posting Period Setup in the General Ledger Setup

Dear All,

I would like to find out the impact of the posting period setup in the general ledger setup.

If we set up posting period in general ledger setup to be November. For user A, in the user setup the posting period for him is set to October.

I understand that for a users generated transaction such as posting a purchase invoice, it will follow the user A posting period and posted to October. How about a system posted transaction? such as revaluation, will it follow the user posting period in user setup (October) or general ledger setup (November) ?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

Its very interesting question. To check allowed posting dates system first checks User Setup for the current logged In user. If it exist then those dates in user setup will be used and checked if it is allowed. Otherwise system check the dates in General Ledger Setup.

For your main concern about system created entry even if the entry is posted by system the rule still remains the same. So the user who is initiating the system to generate entry; his allowed posting dates will be checked based on rule discussed above. You specifically asked for revaluation so i'll explain it. In Revaluation Journals we take a value entry and revalue it. So the posting date will remain the same as it is on the original value entry. For this posting date the rule will be the same as discussed above. If you need to revalue a past transaction then you should have permission of allowed posting date either specially for your user or in General Ledger Setup.

Hope it will help you understanding this. Let me know if you need more on this. Please verify if this answer your query.

    Regards,

    Bilal
