Global Companies

I'm searching for solutions for a Global Company.  We are based in Canada and currently use Dynamics GP.  We have set up terminal services in order for our Australian and UK operations to use Dynamics GP.  They want to put in a third party payroll product but there seems to be issues with having a shared dictionary, as we already have Canadian payroll set up for our Canadian company.   They also have questions regarding the tax structure and getting the correct tax reports.

Is anyone else using terminal or citrix servers to have their foreign subsidiaries use their Dynamics GP that is held at the parent company in Canada or the US?

Are there any solutions to these issues?

We are based in the USA with over 100 locations and 3 offices in Canada. They all have view only access in Navision 4.01 via Terminal Services - works great and has been for few years now.

I operate a Dynamics GP integrator in Los Angeles and we have implemented for clients in a similar situation utilizing Terminal Services in one instance and Citrix in another instance.  One client has foreign subsidiaries in Sweden, UK, Hong Kong and Canada all accessing via Terminal Services.  The second has a foreign subsidiary accessing from Germany.

What shared dictionary are you having trouble with?   Also maybe you could shed a little light on what the issues with the tax structure and reports?

We've got a UK parent with subs in the US, Canada and Germany. Our Dynamics GP 9 servers sit in the UK and we access them over Citrix. The sharing works OK. The only problem we have is that we've had to turn off a lot of the v9 functionality (outlook home page, etc) as they are unusably slow over Citrix. We also have problems printing (take a print in the US and it pops out of a printer in the UK).

Hi poptos - What issues are you seeing with printing specifically and I will see if there is a good work around available for you?

This printing issue is quite common in Citrix, since when  user connects to Citrix, by default their local printers are added to the Citrix environment. The best solution is to not use Citrix printing at all, and instead use IP printing. Any teechnical person that Knows Citrix will be able to set this up for you, its quite simple.

We have several clients with US, Canada, Europe and Asia operations  using Dynamics GP with Terminal services successful. There are a few gotchas you have to watch out for including

    - Report printing (setting up printers correctly)

    - Using Load balanciny correctly

IF users are logging into the correct companies - I'm assuming each entity is a separate GP company then there should not be any tax issues. Do you have all entitites in one company?

We give support Companies in US from Argentina. Our best option we setup RDC, with a dedicated desktop in the Datacenter to serve a remote desktop.

We use this schema for support and in one company to give access to branches in US and Spain. The only issue is Printing over RDC using Internet with heavy reports.

    Hi,

Your core problem was payroll, is that right? Are you trying to set up multiple kinds of payroll in the same company database? It sounds like maybe it's a shared database where the problem lies rather than a shared dictionary.  Do you have multiple company databases, or just one?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

We have our Citrix servers located in Canada and other operations scattered across the US and Canada.  If your Australian and UK operations have separate company databases (but share DYNAMICS or have named DYNAMICS dbs), you could do what we do here.  We have separate client installations for each operating entity with different 3rd parties and different regional installs of GP (US & Canada).

On the later topic of printing, we do not allow client printers in Citrix (only network printers).

    Tim
