Movement Journal - Project interaction

I hope everyone has had a good start to the week!

Just reaching out to see if anyone else has run into similar issues with Movement journals and their interaction with Projects.

My client is wanting to use movement journals instead of the project item journal to consume items against a project as it allows users to specify the offset account when entering the journal. When initially entering the journal, adding the project ID in the journal lines will link that line as a Pending project transaction under the All projects form. However, once I post the Movement journal, the pending transaction disappears (As expected) but when I check the Posted project transactions, the Movement journal entry is not visible. We have not modified the movement journal, or the PM&A module, and the transaction shows on the item level transactions in the on-hand list.

Any guidance is appreciated, and again, I hope everyone is having a good week!

    Hello Hanng1875,

Just inventory journals type project can be used to consume items in a project and then to create project transactions. This journal is the only one that allows you to define all information needed to create a project transactions: project id, category, line property,...

As you say, when you create a project item journal, there is not any offset account field to modify the ledger account. The reason is because it uses ledger account defined in item project category into project tab.

So if you need to modify the ledger account, just you have to change the default project category to other one.

    Regards,

    Natalia

    Hi Hanng1875,

Changing the ledger account is something I would not like to allow people doing when they post project related transactions.

Most of the people working on projects don't have a very deep financial insight of what that offset account would do and there is a risk that they just select a random account, which messes up things in project and accounting.

Would recommend using the project item journal and the standard project posting setup to avoid a mess.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
