What is the consequence when you change the customer code on an existing customer?

We intend to modify the customer no on the customer card, transitioning from, for instance, K00010 to X00040. What would be the potential implications of such a change? While this modification is possible, could it lead to complications related to past transactions linked to the customer or any other problems?

Hi, as Inge mentioned, this is safe. Unless you have custom functions.
As shown in the following code, during the renaming process, Microsoft will automatically update the related information. But if you have customized features, you'll have to add some updated code yourself.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

Renaming a customer  (changing the customer number) in Business Central is a supported operation that is totally safe and will not compromise the integrity of your data.
All tables that have a relation to the customer table will be updated as part of the renaming process.

The only potential implications I can think of is if you customer have noted their customer no. in their system they might refer to back to you with their old customer no.
And if you have any 3. party integrations that depends of the customer no. that can also be an issue you will need to address.

But as I said the renaming process per say is totally safe to preform.

One good idea can maybe be to save the old customer no. into the no. 2 field before you do the rename. Then you can track the old customer no. if needed at some point after the change.
