UID (Unique Item Identifier) Capability

Hi,

We are currently running GP 2013R2 and are planning to upgrade shortly to 2016R2.

Our business is in the medical device industry.  And, starting this year we are mandated to generate and store a UID code to each product.  However, the code requires a 30 digit code that consists of additional characters appended to the current product serial number.  And, in GP's current configuration (2013) the amount of characters required are not possible.  And, we don't want to use a separate module for this function.  Does anyone have any experience/guidance on this very important requirement and how we can proceed?

    Hi,

Consider using VBA and the DUOS table. The Property Value field is about 125 characters long. The Object ID field is 60 characters. You could identify your item by serial number and populate the DUOS table from a field you would need to add with Modifier so that you could capture the number.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
