Positive Item Ledger Entries with negative Remaining Quantity

Posted on by 4
Hi all,
I'm placing this issue because I disagree with my NAV partner's view, on what I'm about to explain, but I'm not sure if my understanding is correct.

In my company we're using NAV 2017 and in my database I found item ledger entries with negative remaining quantities. I filtered only positive entries (in) and still I have many entries with negative remaining quantity, only for some location codes. I reported this to my NAV partner and they replied that this is correct. They said that when there is no negative inventory control, positive ledger entries can have negative remaining quantity.
From my point of view, this is not correct! When we do not control negative inventory, only negative ledger entries (out) should have negative remaining quantity. When NAV applies outbound entries and if there is no remaining quantity to apply, these are not applied and should stay with Remaining Quantity = Quantity, which is negative.  Am I thinking correctly or not?

Can someone please verify?
Thanks.
Helena

    Hi,

Thanks for your replies but I’m not talking about correction entries.
I mean positive entries as purchases, transfer receipts, positive adjustments posted with normal positive Quantity but now they have negative remaining quantity. See the example below.

Application Entries for Item Ledger Entry No. 20215981

    Location Card for MF67:

    Inventory Setup Card:

I only have this behavior with Locations where the field "Prevent Negative Inventory at Date" is not checked. Even so, I was convinced that the positive entry should result in zero remaining quantity (only apply 12) and the negative entry should keep -31 remaining quantity when there is no negative control.

    Thanks again for your support.

Can You share a screenshot of one entry?
If I understood You correctly, You are saying that You have a positive entry - for example purchase or positive adjustment or production output where quantity is Positive, but the remaining quantity for this entry is negative?

If you are referring to the type that would mean a positive entry, but the quantity is negative - then this is possible in NAV - as in ZHU's example - such entries are usually entered though a journal for correction. As the type determine which G/L accounts are used, then to do a correction the same type is used, just with negative quantity.

Hi, it looks like your partner is right.
NAV only controls the total inventory not less than 0.

When your inventory is greater than 0, the system does not control whether the quantity of Positive Adjmt is less than 0.

    Hope this helps..
    Thanks.
    ZHU
