suggest you to check KB article mentioned in below link,

    support.microsoft.com/.../860468

To outline the Cause, i suggest you to check the Roles in SQL Management Studio for which you are trying to login, the particular ID might not have sufficient permission.

Syed, if you have access to SQL Server Studio Manager, can you see the user name in the Dynamics..Activity table?

This is the table ( I believe ) in question and the one that when you perform the tasks you have listed is updated from with the Microsoft Dynamics GP application.

When you look into this table, if the user that is locked is still listed and you are sure that they are not logged into the system, you can use this window to remove them.

There are number of reasons why this might happen, but as SA there are few tables that you should not have access to - if any - and therefore it might have more to do with what the user system / id is leaving connected to SQL Server.

Keep posting and someone in the community will help solve the problem.

    Thanks Bill,

But I try to kill the 'sa' from dynamics..activity I get 'Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Line 3

Invalid object name 'SOC..CO00201'. and that is where I am stuck

What user are you logged into GP with?

What user permissions does that user have?

I am trying to login with 'sa' and see 'sa' stuck in ACTIVITY and giving me error messages

If you log onto the application as SA and then attempt to remove SA from the Activity table, then go back to the Application you will encounter these 'weird errors'

Start by logging off of GP

Open SQL Server Studio Manager and open the Dynamics..Activity table.

Note if SA is still there - if so, ensure that there are no other users or sessions open under the SA user ID and then and only then, using SQL, remove that ID from the table.

Best practices with SSSM and changes to the database is to ensure that you have a good backup and understanding of what effect the adjustment in SQL will have to the application.

    Hope this helps.  Keep posting

Thanks for all your tips. I am completely out of GP and have no user logged in. Still SSMS I see the 'sa' user in activity and not able to remove it.

Syed, when you open SSSM - find the Dynamics database, then the Tables list - expand, then find Activity ( near the top ) and then chose EDIT table

What results here should allow you to do is - highlight the line with SA as user and click on DELETE

Again, no one in GP, SA is not logged into GP

    Let me know.

    Hi bill,

I appreciate your active responses to help.

Somehow it is more mess now. DELETE option also gave me the same error message and then when I tried to login with sa, it created 2 entries in activity and now it is giving me get/change error and for some reason 'DYNSA' or sa is not the owner of DYNAMICS and company DB and it will not let me change that either.
