Hi,

I am currently installing AX 2012 R2 on 1 server and connecting it to a database server when i encounter the error below.

I tried different solution such as:

1.  Off firewall of both server

2. Check TCP/IP and Name pipes if enabled

3. Ping both server

The server for which you are trying to install must be joined to the same Active Directory domain forest.

Verify in the AX System requirements guide that the SQL Server version is supported for the AX deployment you are trying to install, sometimes specific hotfix or service pack levels must be applied. Some editions of SQL are not supported.

If someone has installed Microsoft SQL Server with non-default service name, then it has to be provided. It can be seen if you open the Services for the SQL Server instance. The default name is MSSQLSERVER.

Try providing the fully qualified domain name for the computer, and the instance name in a format like this:

    YOURSQLSERVER.YOURDOM.AIN\YOURSQLINSTANCE

Make sure you do not have any IP conflicts for the server with another computer, and Windows Firewall is turned off for the Domain profile. Start the SQL Server Browser service too.

Did you ping servers with Server names instead of IP's. Ping the servers with server name and check the replies. If you ping with below command the reply must be with exact IP that you configured for servers. If reply is different please check your network configuration with Network admin.

Cmd: ping your server name -t

RE: Setup could not connect to the database server

Sometimes when You use named instance (verify that You used correct instance) instead of Default AOS setup cannot find the database. If You can try to use default instance, if not, please try to input the database server and database name by hand without trying to "find" it.

Also, verify if AX database is installed on that server prior to installation of AOS. You have to first deploy the database, with everything else afterwards. Verify if Your domain user have rights to access this server and database (for test purpose i suggest giving it DBA rights).

    RE: AX Installation

Also try to create a DSN and see if you can connect. We will figure it out if that is connectivity issue or something wrong with AX setup.
